James Robert “Bro. John” “Jimmy” Unger, age 80, of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
A Navy Veteran, serving in Japan on the USS Columbus; he retired after serving for 38 years at Houchens Market in Elizabethtown; four years for Severns Valley Baptist Church and eight years for Hardin County Schools Transportation as a bus monitor. Of the Baptist faith, he and his late wife, Margaret, served the Lord with a singing ministry, singing in many churches in the area for over 45 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hazle Unger; his parents, Edward and Cora Hughes Unger; a brother, Hugh Unger and a sister, Alice Wilhite.
He is survived by a special “daughter”, Terri Wyatt of Hodgenville; a sister, Goldia Fett of Iowa; a special family friend and “honorary niece”, Brittney Meredith and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 10, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Raleigh Bostic and Terri Wyatt, F.N. officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery in Hodgenville.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m., Friday at the funeral home.
