Gladys Eugene Saunders Thurman, age 72, was born on July 23, 1950, in Hodgenville to the late Leonard Howard Saunders, Sr. and Eugene “Jeanie” English Saunders and God saw fit to call her home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Hosparus Inpatient Center in Louisville.
She believed that there was Life after this early life, professing a belief and hope in Jesus Christ as her savior and uniting with First Baptist Church in Hodgenville nearly 60 years ago. She dedicated over 40 years to Nationwide Uniform in Hodgenville as a seamstress before retiring.
Gladys was united in marriage to the late Joe David “Butch” Thurman, Sr., whom preceded her to glory on February 8, 2002. To this union were born a daughter, Kimberly Renee Thurman, whom preceded her on August 26, 1992 and a son, Joe David “Jody” Thurman, Jr.
Gladys will be greatly missed and her memories cherished by her son; three granddaughters, Kylee Thurman, Isabella Thurman and Makenzi Daniels; a grandson, Naquan Thurman; a sister Shirley Ann Saunders Cobb; a brother, Leonard Howard Saunders, Jr.; a nephew, Tino Cobb and a host of great-grandchildren, other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, at First Baptist Church, 404 S. Lincoln Blvd. Hodgenville with Elder Jerry Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow in Hubbard Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville.
