Alwilda Ruth “Dolly” Smith Marcum, age 87, of Hodgenville, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
Fierce, funny and feisty, she was a member of Hodgenville United Methodist Church; was a lifelong homemaker, as well as farmer, business owner, store clerk and childcare provider for Kids Crew. Dolly loved genealogy and was a charter member of the LaRue County Genealogy Society, a member of Captain Jacob VanMeter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the LaRue County Homemakers for over 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Robert “Pete” Marcum; a son, Timothy Wade Marcum; her parents, Glen Wallace and Sarah Nell Cromwell Smith; a brother, Wayne T. Smith and her lifelong best friend, Nancy B. Raine.
Dolly is survived by a daughter, Sarah (Paul) Hornback of Hodgenville; a son, Brent (Tammy) Marcum of Waco; a sister, Beverly (Pat) Heath of Hodgenville; six grandchildren, Jessica “Katy”, Ben and Sam Hornback, Tim and Nathan Lykins and Alicia Brab; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Bruce Hiner officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
