Terry Lynn Thomas, age 67 years, of Hodgenville, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018 in Hodgenville, KY.
From his birth in Russell County, KY on October 8, 1951 to his death on Saturday, he nourished those around him with love, laughter, and a warm smile. Born on a farm near Russell Springs, KY to Wilbur and Violet (Harris) Thomas, he was the middle child of three boys. It was here that he developed and fell in love with all things agriculture, particularly horses. He went on to develop a fondness for miniature horses, rearing, training and showing many local and national champions over several years. After graduating from Russell County High School in 1969, he attended Western Kentucky University, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1973. After a short stay in Louisville, Terry moved to Hodgenville in 1976, where he began his career in banking; first at People’s State Bank and then at Magnolia Bank until his retirement in 2014. He quickly became enmeshed in the local community. He was thoroughly involved with the local 4-H Club, Lion’s Club, and later in life, as a member of the American Miniature Horse Registry and Bluegrass Miniature Horse Club, among others. Known for his big smile and personality, as well as his stature, Terry never knew a stranger. His willingness to help others always far outweighed his own personal needs and he was truly at his happiest when he knew his efforts were making someone else’s life better. It has often been said that he was one of the most genuinely kind men ever met by those who knew him, and was always armed with a story, joke, handshake and a smile.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents and dear friend, Josephine B. Roten (Felix) of Hodgenville.
He is survived by two children, Justin R. Thomas (Kristen Wright) and Heather R. Sutherland (Marty) both of Hodgenville; eight grandchildren, Carter R. Thomas, Kennedy L. Thomas, Evan R. (Jessica) Cline, Sydney T. Cline, Emmilyn G. Cline, Allison L. Zeller, Emma G. Zeller and Malachi A. Zeller; two brothers, Larry Thomas of Bowling Green and Joey Thomas of Buffalo; cousin, Debbie Raup (Ron) of Champagne-Urbana, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; friends, Donnie and Marjorie Vickery of Hodgenville, and a lifetime of extended family and friends. Terry will always be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities he served and loved and will be missed by those who were blessed to know him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Marty Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery near Russell Springs.
Visitation will be 2-8 PM Wednesday and after 9 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
