Mary E. Smith Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Williams Smith was born June 29, 1935 to the late John Roosevelt and Gertrude Johnson Williams. She attended school at Park City and Horse Cave, KY. She accepted Jesus Christ at the age of nine.  On Tuesday morning, January 15, 2019 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home, she departed this life and went to her brand new home.

Mary was a classic lady that loved to dress nicely. She enjoyed cooking, clothes, shoes and purses. She always had that warm smile that would melt one's heart and love for people in general. She was an active member of First Baptist Hodgenville and was very faithful and active in many auxiliaries of the church. She was a member of the former Young Adult Choir, former member of the Missionary Society, Assistant Sunday School Teacher of the Adult class, a member of the usher Board where she was a member for 52 years and was named President Emeritus by pastor Elder Jerry Wilkinson in 2014, Head of the Culinary Department, member of the Senior choir, Sunday School, the James Cleveland Gospel workshop of America where she was a chapter Representative, the Hodgenville Mass choir, the Hodgenville Womens Club when she was in good health. She loved cooking. Her favorite dishes were her sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, dried beans and cornbread, butterscotch and pineapple chess pie and her lemonade. She loved her family, her church family and Lane Lincoln.

She did day work for several years, working as a cook at the Hodgenville Elementary School for ten years and retired from E'Town Sportswear after working 20 years. Mary had a caring heart and was ready to help anyone that needed a helping hand, especially cooking.

She married Robert Bennett (RB) Smith on December 27, 1949 at Munfordville, KY. They remained married for 65 years before his death in 2015. She had been a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home for six and an half years where she was loved by everyone.

A great thank you to family and friends who visited her in the nursing home, Sunrise Manor for the love and care while she was a resident and a special thank you to Arneva Smith, who she considered her sister, Mansfied "Smitty" and Carol Rae Smith and special friends Carrie Arnette and Linda Andrews.

Besides her parents and husband, a son, Jerry Louis Smith preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn four sons, John and Craig, both of Elizabethtown, Tony (Tess) of Germany and Brian (Sharon) of Louisville; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of relatives, Church Family, Lane Lincoln, Sunrise Manor Nursing Home and her many friends.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow

Because He lives, all fear is gone

Because I know He holds the future

And life is worth the living,

Just Because He Lives.
