Jean Mather Thurman McCubbin, 93, of Hodgenville, died Monday, August 19, 2019 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
Born November 2, 1925 in Hodgenville, Kentucky to the late Richard Bertrand and Blanche Mather Thurman, Jean graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in economics. She was a member of the Hodgenville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle worker, and a life master of the American Contract Bridge Association. Jean was a member of the Hodgenville Woman’s Club and was the last president of the Ladies Lincoln League.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Donald L. McCubbin and a son, Mark LaRue McCubbin. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Lynn Claycomb and Bobby; Steve McCubbin and Melinda; and Sarah McCubbin-Cain and David; her beloved grandchildren, Brandon Claycomb and wife Kellie; Ellen Claycomb, Tom Claycomb and wife Catherine; Kate, Max, and Anne McCubbin; and Hannah Mayfield; her step-grandson Aaron Cain and wife Alison; and great grandchildren – Alex, Bella, Peyton, Jones, and Joe. Two cousins survive her – Joyce Thomas Allison, Louisville, and Gwen Mather Mann, Grosse Point Farms, Michigan.
There was a private graveside service on August 22, 2019 with the Reverend J. Gregory Alexander officiating. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hodgenville Christian Church.
