Cecil Gorden Druen, age 77 years, of Hodgenville, went to his heavenly home after a long battle with cancer on April 22, 2018.
He is survived by his wife Clara Mae Thomas Druen, his son Thomas Shelton (Takako), his daughter Johanna, grandsons LTjg Samuel Druen (Kristin) and Jake Rusk, and granddaughters Laura Rusk and Maiyuki Druen. He also leaves behind several siblings: Melvin (Katherine) Druen, Jean Key, Kay Poynter, Edward (Janet) Druen, and Teresia (Dale) Rucker; as well as two generations of numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings Margaline Dennison, Dale Druen, and Stephen Druen, as well as his parents and grandparents.
He was born on December 28, 1940, to William Howard and Mildred Druen in Hart County, Kentucky. He attended LaRue County High School where he was a proud member of the Band of Hawks. He left school early to join the Army where he was stationed in Germany during which time he received his GED. He returned home after his service and later lived for a short time in Chicago, Illinois. After marrying Clara Mae in 1964, they moved to Magnolia, Kentucky, where he owned a gas station, served on the volunteer fire department, and volunteered with the PTA. He later joined the team at Crucible Magnetics where he rose to the rank of supervisor.
His children were born in 1967 and 1970. In 1975, the family bought a farm on 31W between Sonora and Upton, Kentucky, where they lived until 1987 when they moved to Hodgenville to the home where he resided until his death.
Cecil attended Magnolia Baptist Church and later, Upton Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, youth chaperone, member of various committees, and bass singer in the choirs. He was also a 50-year member and past Master and Secretary of the Masonic Lodges at Magnolia and Upton. He served as a Past Patron and Past District Deputy of the Order of Eastern Star Chapters of Magnolia and Upton as well. Cecil was also a Shriner and a member of Knight’s Templar.
In 1989, Cecil received his Associate Degree in Business Management from Elizabethtown Community College in the same month he had a brain aneurysm and a massive stroke which left him permanently disabled. After his rehabilitation, he served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 10 years for which he was recognized with numerous local and state awards.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Bro. Richard Raymond Lloyd III and Bro. J.D. Shipp officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday with an Eastern Star Service at 7 PM and after 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Cecil touched many lives with his personal testimony and unwavering perseverance in the face of many physical and emotional battles. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
